The Man of the House

Our Sunday's lately aren't as smooth as one would hope. With Ray on the High Council he is only in our ward once a month. Which leaves me to be the frazzled single mom with four kids. Church goes just as you would expect. Sippy cups flying, kids crying, and me smiling on the outside, but freaking out on the inside.

This last Sunday had been a particularly trying day at church. And it was pouring rain when church let out. When we pulled up in the driveway all of the kids hopped out of the car and went running inside leaving all of the car doors open. My calls to them to come back and shut the car doors went unheard. While I am sitting there in the car having a pity party for myself, I see Benny coming back to help. He shut the car doors, then came around to my door and opened it for me and even unbuckled my seat belt. I told him how proud I was of him and what a great job he was doing as being the "big man in the house" while Ray was gone.

And of course the person to thank for that is Ray. What a great example he is to our sons. On that note, it might be time for Ray to tell Benny that he is a little to old for the one piece PJ's.

It's hard to tell Benny to stop wearing the one-piece when I'm not much better (I can't believe Sara passed up this blog fodder!... she's been teasing me about it incessantly...) See, we have an elliptical machine in our bedroom, which I have been using lately right before bed. I don't feel like changing into exercise clothes, so I just hop on that bad boy wearing the g's, socks I wore to work (usually black), and some sweet shell-toe adidas. Every night Sara looks over and shakes her head at the massive fashion clashing.... so I'm not sure I can give Benny any tips-

Benny is a really sweet boy who just wants to do what is right - you can tell he loves his mommy...

I honestly thought about telling that, but I just couldn't put that image into words.

Thanks for the visual Ray. That's funny. Sara, that is such a sweet story. Go Benny! I like the part, smiling on the outside freaking out inside. That is SO me, and I have a husband sitting with me! You are much more calm than I am though. That is why you get that calling in life. Ray will probably be bishop next, so just get used to it you righteous woman.

yes, he will be bishop next. but at least then he can give them the "evil" eye from the stand.

anyhoo, i love benny. he's the sweetest.

Benny was always a gentleman to me. Nice example, Ray! And Sara I cannot imagine how you do it at Church all by yourself - sounds crazy!!

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one that struggles with church right now. Even with two parents, it's a joke! Almost every week I think, why are we even here? I go home so totally exhausted. They all say that these days will pass and someday I'll miss it, but I don't think I'll ever miss going to church with 4 young kids!

hahahaha, love the one piece!

What a fine gentleman, great job taking care of mom Benny!

The elliptical glider image is mildly distubing, but Ray strikes me as a g's around the house type guy anyway so.... :)

*I think you guys have the exact same refrigerator as we do. Cool!

When we pull up at church, Darin frequently says, "Should I just drive around with the girls buckled in until it's safe to come in?" Most Sundays it seems crazy to take them in to the quiet Sacrament meeting. Way to do it and be there even when you are alone!

ps: your house looks so fancy. how come we haven't visited you yet?

(sorry.)

What a sweet story- isn't it nice when the kids surprise you with something like that?

Um- I agree with Rich- a slightly disturbing picture of the exerciser....but very funny!

Great job benny. Those henderson boys...the other day I saw ryan wearing that same outfit...but add some crocs to the pic and then you're good. I totally feel your pain on Sundays. Since Ryan is in the bishopric I sit all by myself with Lukas. So everyone in church hears this the entire time...."daddy" "daddy". At first it's endearing, but after an hour well..you know....and to add to that during the blessing of sacrament he sees my brother and all we hear during that time is "moshes...moshes...moshes" and I only deal with one. So I slightly feel your pain and admire you for being such a great mom.
